With that, users were able to welcome a plentitude of “goodies” in the form of device crashing to recovery mode, Bluetooth not working, inconsistent network, screen timeout not working, system UI not responding, among others. In all of this, there was a silver lining- most of them were software-related issues and could be rectified with a subsequent update. However, there has been an addition of a highly concerning hardware issue that might spell out trouble for the end-users.
Various users have voiced their concern that their Pixel 6/Pro device’s screen has started cracking randomly, without any manual intervention from their end. At first, it was thought there might have been some physical impact by the user, as the screen getting cracked all of a sudden didn’t make much sense. But after going through the truckload of complaints across Google Support Forums and Reddit, it seems that assumption might be and Google might be the culprit behind this fiasco.
Pixel 6/Pro Screen Cracking Randomly: What We Know So Far
Going through the concerns lined up across various forums, a majority of users had a common pattern relating to the screen crack- there were some tiny little chips on the bottom left corner and a hairline crack from the bottom left to the top right of the screen. Apart from that, most of the users have said that they had put their devices in their pockets.
And when they took it out, all of a sudden the spider cracks were present on their screen. So it might be the case of the phone chassis not being rigid enough to allow the phone to flex while in the pockets. Talking about which, it could also be that these covers (mostly from Spigen and Otterbox) might be applying too much pressure on the curved screen.
However, all these are just speculations and there’s nothing concrete that could pinpoint the reason behind the Pixel 6/Pro screen cracking randomly. Furthermore, what makes it more concerning is the fact that both these flagships are protected by the toughest Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus. So on paper, the devices should be able to easily withstand the small bumps and impacts.
What’s Google Take on Pixel 6 Random Screen Cracks?
While the Silicon Valley giants haven’t yet officially addressed this issue, a user has said that “Google has agreed to a replacement and is making an exception to consider the phone in warranty”. We can’t really verify the claims and even if it turns out to be true, he/she might be the only one that has stuck the right chord as none of the other affected users managed to spell out any success regarding this.
On that note, we round off this post. As and when there is any official/unofficial development regarding the Pixel 6/Pro random screen cracking issue, we will update this post accordingly.
