In this regard, one of the biggest differentiating factors between both these updates is that the beta build is free whereas Developer builds require you to be a part of the Apple Developer Program—which costs $99 per year. However, all these rules gave currently gone out for a toss. Recently we covered how public beta testers were receiving developer preview updates.
iOS 16.5 Developer Beta Update missing for developers!
Now, there have been reports that the developers who should have got the iOS 16.5 Developer Beta Update are instead receiving the Beta updates. While the beta testers are able to enjoy the developer preview build for free, on the other hand, the developers who have shelled out bucks just for this purpose are instead having to be content with the beta update. So the point of infuriation on their part is totally justified.
Even if they head over to Settings > General > Software updates > Beta updates, they could only get hold of the public beta updates. So the devs are surely missing out on a few goodies. Moreover, as far as the official stance on this matter is concerned, Apple is yet to acknowledge the same. As and when that happens, we will update this guide accordingly. In the meantime, if you are also a part of this fiasco, then do share your experience with us in the comments section.
